Patrick McGoohan, 80, Dies, Finally Escaping the Village
McGoohan’s death really casts a pall over my day. I loved watching and listening to him act. The incredible force of his personality was an incendiary animating force in The Prisoner. He was tragically underused by the so-called entertainment business. But we can be grateful for what was.
As much as I enjoy McGoohan and The Prisoner, the cult surrounding the show became a bit excessive in attributing all-encompassing, Promethean creative powers to McGoohan. Here's a very interesting interview with the late George Markstein, who I think really deserves credit for creating the show.
