The Face of Intellectual Dishonesty

Dennis Prager said a number of things today on his radio show:

Gay marriage is the most important domestic issue facing America.

The rising price of gasoline isn’t as important as gay marriage and Congress can’t do anything about the price of gas anyway, whereas they can ban gay marriage.

Dennis Prager never made one attempt to prove that the ability of gays to marry has any material affect on anyone, whereas the economic impact of rising gas prices and the hardships it imposes on most people are obvious.


Congress must pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage because activist, liberal judges keep overturning the decisions of states’ voters and legislatures.

Dennis Prager didn’t complain when conservative, activist judges on the Supreme Court invalidated the will of Florida’s voters, legislature and courts and made George W. Bush president.

Introducing a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage is politically advantageous to the Republicans but that doesn’t mean that the object of the law isn’t a valid issue.

If gay marrtiage is the most important domestic issue facing this country and Republicans want to pass a constitutional amendment banning it, why do they introduce the legislation only when an election in which their incumbency is at stake is imminent?

Our laws derive from religious values because the Declaration of Independence says that our inalienable rights come from God.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

The sole purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explain why we desired to become independent of the rule of England.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

The Constitution of the United States defines our legal and political institutions and principles. There is nothing in the Declaration of Independence that does this. Our legal principles are derived soley from the constitution. Nowhere does it make any mention of those principles being inspired or emanating from God or religious tenets.

In between making these points, Prager constantly used the words “intellectual honesty” as a free floating mantra and also said that college and graduate school destroy one’s critical thinking, which is part of his playbook.
