Snob

I know there are writers who set out to make a living off of writing novels, just like there are graphic artists who set out to make a living off of that, and singer/songwriters who want to make a living off of that too. These people tend not to be the ones producing interesting, worthwhile work, and, anyway, given the success rate, it's a pretty bad plan.

Hi Peter,
I came to your blog through various links and your funny "condescending" example.

As a writer/publisher, do you think better novelists tend to be one-hit-wonders vs career writers?

Thanks for visiting. It's a subject that's hard to discuss without establishing definitions. Is Harper Lee a better novelist than Raymond Chandler? What's a career writer, to you? How do you define the term? Is Kerouac a career writer? How about Proust?
